Things to do in Toronto with kids: Including Canada colouring pages

We love a little bit of advice on travel for our readers on KiddyCharts, and today we are combining both advice for visitors to Canada, with a list of things to do in Toronto with kids, alongside some Canada colouring pages to take with you. That means that you can not only keep the kids busy while exploring the city, but also while you are eating in any of the Toronto restaurants that you decide to take a break in.

First, let’s take a look at some of the great things to do in Toronto with kids, before we share the Canada colouring pages with you.

The Royal Ontario Museum is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Toronto. It’s a great place for families to learn about history, science, and culture. The museum has over 13 million objects in its collection, including dinosaur skeletons, ancient artefacts, and works of art from around the world.

The museum has many interactive exhibits that are perfect for kids; every child loves to get up close and personal with exhibits if they can. And sometimes when they shouldn’t 😂

For example, the Bat Cave is a favourite for kids. Here they can learn about bats and their habitats; discovering echolocation, and exploring 20 bat specimens and over 800 different models.

There are also live animal exhibits at the museum, where kids can see and learn about different species up close.

Don’t let the fact this is a museum put you off. Sometimes kids immediately assume its not worth the visit, but check out the site with them before you go – you won’t be disappointed.

The Toronto Islands are a group of islands located in Lake Ontario, just a short ferry ride from downtown Toronto. The islands are a popular destination for families looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. There are plenty of activities to enjoy on the islands, including swimming, biking, and picnicking.

One of the highlights of the Toronto Islands is Centreville Amusement Park. This a small amusement park that has rides and attractions for children of all ages. The park also has a farm as well as pony rides, making it an excellent place for younger children.

Another must-see attraction on the islands is the Franklin Children’s Garden. The garden is designed to teach children about nature and the environment. As you would expect for an attraction that kids love, its got loads of interactive exhibits to allow them to get hands on. Examples include a the pollination station, a hide and seek garden, and the Little Sprouts garden as well.

Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada is one of the newest and most popular attractions in Toronto. The aquarium is home to over 20,000 marine animals from around the world, including sharks, rays, and sea turtles.

The Discovery Centre is a hands-on area where kids can touch and learn about different sea creatures. There is also a tunnel, called Dangerous Lagoon, that takes visitors through a tank filled with sharks and other fun and fabulous fish.

The aquarium is open late on weekends, making it a great place to visit after dinner. It’s a rather unusual way to spend an evening with the family learning about marine life.

The Toronto Zoo is one of the largest zoos in the world, with over 5,000 animals representing over 450 species. The zoo is divided into seven regions, each with animals from different parts of the world.

The Kids Zoo is a favourite for younger visitors, as here they can pet and feed different animals. The Splash Island water park is also a hit for kids, especially during the hot summer months.

There is so much to do at Toronto Zoo, you will need plenty of time to explore; opening hours are longer at the weekend and holidays (9.30am – 6pm compared to 9.30am – 4.30pm), to give you more time on the days you have your kids for longer. Always a bonus!

Canada’s Wonderland is Canada’s largest amusement park, located just outside of Toronto. The park has over 200 attractions, including 17 roller coasters, water rides, and live shows for the whole family to enjoy.

The park has a dedicated KidZville area, which has rides and attractions designed for younger children. There is also a water park called Splash Works too, which has a variety of water rides and attractions.

Canada’s Wonderland is well worth a visit, but make sure you allow enough time to explore with the family, as there is such a lot to do. Perhaps taking in the rides on a separate day to the water park to make sure you get the best out of the location.

You might even want to colour this one in yourself! Toronto has a particularly stunning skyline that features the iconic CN Tower, as well as a mix of modern and historic buildings. The skyline is especially beautiful at night when the buildings are lit up. Families can enjoy the view from different vantage points, such as the waterfront, high-rise hotels, or the Toronto Islands.

The final image is a stylised Canadian flag to colour in – the official Canadian flag has a red and white design with a maple leaf in the centre. It was adopted in 1965 and symbolises unity, peace, and patriotism.
